 COMMUNITY SERVICES 

  

  AMERICANISM COMMITTEE

  • ImageThe function of this Committee is to support and educate the public on myriad subject matter to include, but not limited to: The Flag Program, Speakers in the Classroom Program, Environmental Protection Programs to include Keeping America Green and Arbor Day, Loyalty Day activities, and Showing Respect to the Deceased Veterans on a year-round basis.

BENEVOLENT COMMITTEE

  • This Committee's primary function is to receive requests for financial aid from area residents; to investigate their needs and to make recommendation to the membership for Post financial assistance.  Financial assistance (Helping Hand Donations) in the amount of $200.00 or less may be made by the committee without prior approval of the membership.

TROOP CARE PACKAGE PROGRAM (TCPP)

  • This Program was established to provide support to units deployed overseas. The support is limited to much needed items that cannot be obtained in country. Also, for providing calling cards for the individual servicemembers and support of the VFW National UpLink Program. And lastly, to welcome home certain supported units returning to Camp Shelby for demobilization or reassignment

HONOR GUARD PROGRAM

  • This Program functions to provide Honor Guard services and perform Military Funerals for deceased veterans within our service area.

VOICE OF DEMOCRACY AND PATRIOT'S PEN PROGRAM

  • These programs are offered to all area schools and the home-schooled. The programs are accomplished with the help of the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Academy at Camp Shelby. These are national programs with students participating at Post, District, Department and National level.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

BINGO

  • Traditional Bingo is played every Saturday. Doors open at 4:00PM; Sales start at 4:30PM;  Early Bird Games start at 5:00PM, and Regular Bingo starts at 7:00PM.  Video Bingo is played every day beginning at 12:30Pm, except Saturday when the Bingo Hall opens at 2:00PM. No one under the age of twelve (12) allowed in the Bingo Hall. As a change to past policy, Bingo players may bring their own food into the building as there are no restaurant facilities available in the Bingo Hall.
  • The Bingo Hall will be closed on the following Holidays: Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. and New Years Day.

CANTEEN

  • The Canteen is open from 1230 hours until 2200 hours daily.  Only members of the VFW Post in good standing may be members of the Canteen, and no guest membership or honorary club membership of any kind shall be allowed.  Further, only members in good standing who are twenty-one (21) ears of age, or older, may purchase alcoholic beverages in the Canteen.
  • HOLIDAY CLOSINGS:  Unless otherwise provided for, the Canteen will be closed on the five (5) VFW recognized Holiday, i.e., Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year Day.  The Canteen, however, may be opened on any of the five (5) Holidays after approval of the House Committee Chairman; provided a member of the House Committee is present at all time while the Canteen is open. Under such an arrangement, only the Canteen Proper and smoking area will be opened - all other areas of the Post will be "Off Limits." The House Committee Member will be responsible for making sales and safeguarding the Canteen Inventory. Further, the House Committee member shall be responsible for safeguarding collected monies and for conveying such receipts to the Quartermaster or Canteen Manager at the next Canteen opening. Finally, the House Committee member present will be responsible for securing the Canteen area and for locking and activating the security alarm when exiting the Post.

RECREATION CENTER

  • The VFW Post 3036 Recreation Center is located on Highway 49 just south of Camp Shelby on the east side of the highway.  The Center provides the following facilities: 1) Great fishing lakes, 2) Two houses for short-term rent, 3) A dining facility with kitchen for rent, and 4) Covered picnic areas.  To reserve one of these facilities, contact the Recreation Facility Manager.  His phone number may be obtained by calling the Post Canteen at (601) 582-9314 after 12:30PM daily.
