LACY KELLY VFW POST 3036 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 BACKGROUND:  Since 1999, scholarships totaling approximately $900,000 have been awarded to three-hundred-ten students.  The scholarships have varied in amounts from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on funding available and the number of qualified applicants.
WHO IS QUALIFIED:   The applicant must have a 2.5 GPA to apply and must maintain that average to remain in the program.  First year applicants must  submit a 400-word essay on the chosen topic of the VFW National Voice of Democracy Program. The completed essay will be attached to the Scholarship Application. The High School/College transcripts will also be attached. Further, to qualify for a scholarship, the student must be sponsored by a qualified member of VFW Post 3036 or Post 3036 VFWA. The sponsor must be a member in good standing and must have attended at least six of the Fiscal Year Meetings (July – June). Furthermore, the student-sponsor relationship must meet the “Family Rule.”  The family rules simply means: You may sponsor yourself, your spouse, your children, or your grandchildren. Applicants not meeting the family rule will not be considered.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AND DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION:  Scholarship application may be picked up at VFW Post 3036, 210 Ronie St, Hattiesburg, MS after 1 January each year.  You can request a Scholarship Application by calling (601) 582-9314 or emailing us at vfwpost3036lk@comcast.net. The application must be completed and returned to the Scholarship Committee not later than 15 May.
THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE:  The Scholarship Committee will review all applications and award scholarships to those students who meet the established requirements.  Selected students will be notified in writing and will be asked to furnish the Quartermaster with certain administrative information essential to processing the scholarship and coordination with the receiving College and or University.  Upon receipt of requested information, the Quartermaster will pay the scholarship during the second week of July. Likewise, those student not selected to receive a scholarship will be notified in writing as to why they were not selected.
